Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to support and enhance the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process at United Pacific College (UPC).

Policy

United Pacific College acknowledges Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition as a valuable method for students to complete their courses of study. UPC can grant credit towards a program or course(s) based on learning acquired through experience or non-formal education/training. This policy applies to all students, student support services, and educational divisions.

Procedures

  1. Guideline Establishment:

    • UPC, in collaboration with the appropriate Program Directors and the Registrar, will establish program-specific PLAR guidelines and implementation procedures.
  2. Information Availability:

    • Information about Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition will be accessible to all students through the college website and brochures.
  3. Guideline Access:

    • PLAR guidelines will be available from the Program Office.
  4. Transcript Recognition:

  5. Eligibility:

    • Students must meet all entrance requirements or be accepted into a UPC program before requesting PLAR.
  6. Application Limits:

    • Students can apply for PLAR for up to 50% of a program.
  7. Combined Exemptions:

    • Students requesting a combination of exemption, transfer, and PLAR can only combine these options up to the maximum limit stated above.
  8. Credit Award:

    • Credit will be awarded only if the student provides evidence of sufficient and current learning as specified by the program’s PLAR guidelines.
  9. Assessment Fees:

    • Non-refundable, non-transferable assessment fees will be levied for PLAR. Fees vary depending on the type of assessment.
  10. Grade Appeals:

    • Current grade appeal policies apply to Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition.
  11. Withdrawal:
