IELTS Academic Certificate Program
Program Description
The IELTS Academic Certificate program at United Pacific College is designed for students with a current IELTS band score of 5.0 or lower who aim to improve their scores. This comprehensive course goes beyond typical IELTS preparation, enhancing core English skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, alongside specific test-taking strategies for the IELTS Academic test.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, students will have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:
Speaking
- Discuss concrete and abstract personal topics such as jobs, hopes and dreams, travel, education, media, the arts, childhood, and personal experiences.
- Answer questions presented in the IELTS speaking test.
- Deliver a two-minute speech on personal topics relevant to the IELTS speaking test.
- Engage in discussions on topics presented in the IELTS speaking test.
Listening
- Identify names, occupations, reasons, times, days, people, characteristics, country, language, place, time, food, and restaurants.
- Differentiate between similar phrases and intonation patterns.
- Recognize syllable stress and email symbols.
- Understand and complete multiple choice, form, note, table, flow chart, and summary questions in the IELTS listening test.
Reading
- Apply various reading strategies such as previewing, predicting, skimming, and making connections with the text.
- Outline texts, identify main ideas, and supporting details.
- Manage reading difficulties by interpreting charts, graphs, and tables.
- Correctly complete multiple choice, matching, and sentence ending questions in the IELTS reading test.
Writing
- Interpret data, structure paragraphs, build arguments, describe tables and graphs, and present and justify opinions.
- Correctly address IELTS writing tasks.
Grammar and Vocabulary
- Use and understand basic grammar to express ideas in English, including past, present, and future tenses, modals, semi-modals, linking verbs, passives, and questions.
- Use vocabulary to express ideas on various academic topics such as history, composition, mathematics, biology, and word parts.
Admission Requirements
- High school graduates or equivalent, or age 16 and over.
- Meet one of the following English proficiency requirements:
- A minimum score of 5.0 in formal IELTS or in-house IELTS conducted by UPC, or its equivalent.
Tuition and Fees
- Application fee: $250
- Assessment fee: $250
- Official transcript: $20 per copy
- Textbooks: Optional (students may purchase their own copies)
- Tuition: $3,600
Program Duration
The duration of the program is 20 weeks.
